The power of technology

I can only really reinforce Cat’s post. Nothing really prepares you for seeing your first baby for the first time on screen, no matter how many other ultrasound images you have seen.

What amazed me most was how clearly you could see the baby’s arms, legs. It was an emotional moment for both of us when we saw the heart beating live before our very eyes!

Also we couldn’t believe how much the baby moves! Right now, it only measures about 6cm, but it was moving and wriggling, full of vigour! Today was the day I truly understood what it means to be a parent, and what I have to look forward to. I can’t wait for the next scan!!

Here I am!

Baby12weeks

Today was the first ultrasound. Boy we were in for a surprise! I thought we would have problems seeing it but as soon as the technician got the thing on me I could see the head and body immediately! It was indescribable!

Not long before we could see the arms and legs and then… the heart beatting! It was so clear and so fast! That became quite an emotional moment :-)

One of the tests was to measure a fluid at the back of the neck as a part of a Downs Syndrome probability test. But the baby was not in the right position. So the technician started rocking me and tapping my tummy to make the baby move. Oh it didn’t like that! It was kicking like a mule! Honestly I had no idea it could move so much! And it kept on moving, so much so that it took ages to get the right measurements because it wouldn’t stop. And it wasn’t happy about having a picture taken as well. Russ said it was so stubborn it could only be a girl ;-)

Anyway the technician didn’t lose her patience (I would) and we finally got the measurements and the picture. So here it is!

Mental note to self

Never again drink a hot drink and especially lattes! :-(

Rubella and other spots

I’m nearly 11 weeks now (minus 1 day) and mos of the sickness is gone. I still feel very tired all the time but less that before. But I guess that must be more to do with the fact that I finally had time to rest and I don’t have a job anymore.

Anyway my doctor called me today to discuss my blood test results. It seems like I am not immune to rubella which is a major pain. It is very dangerous during pregnancy. Fortunately it’s not very common but it’s something to be aware of. So he told me that I should get vaccinated first thing after delivery.

Other than that my skin is even greasier that usual and The odd spot appears in my face :-? I hadn’t had spot for years… And they are all around my nose as well and sometimes painful. Oh well…

My tummy is starting to show a bit although most of it is fat. But I can notice the change :-)

Not long until the ultrasound :-)
